Art Supplies is a book full of life, color, and inspiration. I wanted to express that energy in my binding, as well as use covering materials in a creative way. I’ve been learning how to quilt, particularly in an improvisational style, and experimented with turning my quilt tops into book cloth. I found a method that worked, using Japanese tissue and wheat paste to line the quilt tops, that forms a solid and textured look. For this book, I handsewed an improvisational quilt top with appliqued lettering of the title. I used a tightback binding to show the quilting at its best, because there was no joint for it to cross. The endpapers are made by Lokta and have a cloth hinge that matches some of the cloth on the cover.
